Fabric Refresher Lemon Mist
The Citrus Mate Story
Like most great innovations of history, Citrus-Mate started in a garage. The year was 1989, and the Estabrooks family wanted to do something right for their community because life can be a stinky place, but there was no reason to take it out on the world with messy, unnecessary and harmful chemicals. Every can of air freshener was made DIY style, free from anything that would hurt the environment, though a little elbow grease was added with the oranges when the cans were filled by hand. As demand increased, this craft mentality continued when the company expanded into a warehouse on the scenic Oregon coast, because there’s no reason to leave your hometown when you’ve outgrown your garage.
Their product line grew, too, with lemon, lime, grapefruit and cinnamon, and while not citrus based, no one seemed to notice. We’re not exclusive about the definition of citrus, and cinnamon set the precedent for such followers as tea tree, pomegranate and lavender when the Citrus-Mate family grew to include cleaners, fabric refreshers and laundry detergents, because it’s not just the air that gets stinky.
Today, the company produces more than fifty thousand cans of air freshener and ten thousand bottles of cleaners, fabric refreshers and laundry detergents annually. From its humble beginnings, Citrus-Mate has never compromised its commitment to make products that are good for people, good for the environment and good for the community, because there’s no reason to. We can’t put profit before principles and people because that’s against the Oregon spirit.
